Shamrock Fire: Early Saturday morning a call came into emergency services of a fire at the Shamrock Vacuum Company on Hwy 90 in Raywood. By the time the fire was put out, 14 departments were involved and the large building was a loss. City of Liberty Fire Chief Brian Hurst said the cause of the fire was yet unknown. Liberty County Fire Marshal Bill Hergemueller said in total, 14 departments responded to the call for assistance. Those included Liberty, Dayton, Hwy 321, Tarkington, Plum Grove, Nome, Hardin, Hull Daisetta, ESD # 3, Liberty County EMS, Liberty County HazMat, Westlake, Batson, and North Liberty County. The call came in at 2:50 Saturday morning and took more than 8 hours to put out.

TVE Auction: The 110th annual Trinity Valley Exposition youth livestock sale is history. TVE lead auctioneer Brady Hanson told us the Youth Livestock Auction, held Friday afternoon, brought in $506,000 before add-ons. The Grand champion steer, raised by Tanner Lott, of Mid-County 4H. Tanner’s big 1335 pound steer brought $25,000 from Liberty Materials. The reserve champion steer belonging to Hayden Coleman of Plum Grove 4H was sold for $18,000 to Monarch Celica. The grand champion American breed heifer was purchased by First Liberty National Bank from Ethan Richardson of Hardin FFA for $5,500. Then Skyler Wagner of Dayton FFA sold his reserve champion American breed commercial heifer to Colony Ridge for $5,000. Grand Champion Commercial Heifer for all other breeds, raised by Lacey Tinney of Tarkington FFA, sold for $10,000 to Wingfield Concrete Construction. Then comes the sale of the reserve champion commercial heifer - all other breeds - shown by Logan Chachere of the Dayton FFA who was paid $8500 also by Wingfield Concrete Construction Co.. Now on to the Swine category where Presley Condra of Tarkington sold the Grand Champion pig for $5300 to Community Toyota. Next up the Reserve Champion Market Swine went to Colony Ridge for their high bid of $4,000. The Grand Champion Market Goat belonging to Maggie Stephenson of Anahuac FFA sold for $5,000 to a trio of bidders: Dayton Lease and Pipeline Services, Chambers County Farm Bureau, and Baytown Sand and Gravel. And Reserve Champion market goat belonging to Dawson Lott of Mid-County 4H was sold to FLNB for $4,000.

TVE Queen: This years TVE Queen was named Saturday night in front of a full house. The 2019 TVE is Maci Collins, the 17 year old daughter of Mark and Karen Collins. She was also named most photogenic, won best speech and best horsemanship. As queen, she received a new saddle, belt buckle, sash and flowers. In addition for the horsemanship award she will receive spurs, bracelet and a scholarship.

Disaster Recovery Centers: Joint state/federal Disaster Recovery Centers is open now right here in Liberty to help disaster victims across Liberty and Chambers County experienced from Tropical Storm Imelda. The center nearest is at the Jack Hartel Building 318 San Jacinto. This disaster recovery Center is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
