Market Steer: Tuesday morning, judging was held for the TVE Market Steer division in the arena. Bringing home the Grand Champion Steer banner was Tanner Lott of Mid-County 4H. Reserve Champion steer was shown by Hayden Coleman of Plum Grove 4-H. Highest Ranking for an In-County market steer was shown by Hardin 4H participant-Lindsey Tinney. Rate of gain market steer belonged to Keilee Day of Mid-County 4H. In the showmanship class. Also on Tuesday was Junior Market Steer Showman and that award went to Caylee Anderson Mid-County 4H. Intermediate showmanship laurels went to Kacie Dear, Dayton FFA while senior market steer showman was Keilee Day of the Mid County 4H. The top 20 market steers will be sold Friday at the youth livestock auction. The Grand Champion Market Steer traditionally bringing the highest bid price.
TVE Rabbits and Broilers: On Monday judging was held at the TVE Fairgrounds for pens of Market Rabbits and Broilers. The top 10 in each group will make Fridays youth livestock auction sale. In the Market Rabbit class, Logan Parker with Tarkington Jr. FFA raised the grand champion pen of rabbits, while Tyler Wells of Hardin FFA had the Reserve Champion bunnies. Among the Broilers, also judged Monday, Dayton FFA’s Cade Bartee had the Grand Champion pen of three chickens and Hardin 4-H’r Dane Fitzgerald was awarded the Reserve Championship.
EMT Class: At the end of this month, the Lee College Education Center – South Liberty County will start another Emergency Medical Technician class. This training prepares graduates for jobs in the Emergency Medical Technician field, projected to have a 15% employment increase rate within the next ten years. Lee College Director for Workforce Development, Marsha Tuha, said signup for the class is this Thursday night at Lee College – Liberty Campus. That ‘s on the by-pass in Liberty. Pumpkin Bash: Liberty Municipal Library is planning an exciting Halloween bash on Thursday, October 31, in the Humphreys Cultural Center foyer. For the second year in a row, kids will be able to decorate their very own Halloween bucket. In addition, Library Director Dana Abshire said they will be “stomping” pumpkins. That’s actually orange balloons filled with candy. Kids can show up October 31 and decorate a black metal trick-or-treating bucket. This event is open to all area children, and all absolutely free. That’s this year’s Liberty Municipal Library’s Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 31, starting at 4 pm. For more information call the Library at 936-336-8901.
