Triple Murder: Liberty County Sheriffs Captain Ken DeFoor said what came in as a burglary charge, turned out to be a triple homicide. It was just after midnight Sunday morning when the sheriffs department responded to a burglary in progress call on CR 4010. When deputies arrived, what they found was three men dead of gun shot wounds. One said the wounds were from a shotgun blast. 30-year-old Andrew Jared Bass was arrested and charged with capital murder. He is being held without bond. Two of the three victims have been identified as Walter Clifford Brown 54 and 20-year-old Christopher Allen Wells, both of the Dayton area. Sheriffs Capt. Ken DeFoor said the identity of the third man has not yet been positively made. He had no ID on him. The investigation is on-going and anyone with information is urged to call the Sheriff’s office at (936)336-4500 or Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous.

Masonic Lodge: This year the Liberty Masons chose to honor Liberty County Judge Jay Knight with what they call the Community Builder Award. We first reported that the Mason’s decision to honor Judge Knight came some weeks ago. Well, that never happened since that and many other events were cancelled due to Tropical Storm Imelda which visited the very day of the banquet. Jay Knight became Liberty County Judge in 2015 and was re-elected to another 4-year term in 2019. Jay and his wife Jan have two grown children. He has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dayton 54 years and active in a number of committees for the past decade. Again, County Judge Jay Knight has been chosen for the prestigious Community Builder award by the Liberty Masonic Lodge and he will be honored with that highest Masonic award to, a non-mason, this week.
