Rainfall YTD: September was a very wet month with 28.79 inches of rain measured at the official U.S. Weather Service gauge in the city of Liberty, 15.50 of that falling during Tropical Storm Imelda on September 18-19. Through the first nine months of the year, the city of Liberty is now 26.93 inches above the average for rainfall year to date. KSHN maintains the official U.S. Weather Service gauge in the city of Liberty. For January through September – 71.17 inches of rainfall was recorded. That compares to the historical nine-month average of 44.24 inches. Of note, the average yearly rainfall in South Liberty County is 61.25 inches, putting us now almost a full 10 inches above the yearly average. Looking ahead through year’s end, the average rainfall for October through December is 17.01 inches.
Hunter Education: A Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunters Education Class will be offered Saturday October 19th in the Dayton Community Center. Hosted by Brent Beamesderfer, this hunter’s safety course follows the state guidelines of eight hours of training. It’s open to those 9 years old and above. To register, go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s website at to find the hunter education link under the hunting tab. The $15 should be paid on the morning of the class. Shred It Saturday: A reminder, this Saturday, the City of Liberty will hold a Community Shred & Recycling Event that will allow citizens to safely dispose of sensitive documents and unwanted electronics. All documents will be shredded on site by Texas Security Shredding Company. Saturday, October 5th from 9 am to noon or until the truck fills up. It will be held in the parking lot at Liberty City Hall and is open to everyone not just Liberty residents.
Mobile Medical Clinics: TAN Healthcare is bringing Mobile Medical Day Clinics to under-served communities. Appointments are available for the entire family’s health needs including preventive care, sick care, chronic disease management, and screenings. Locations in our area include: Tuesday, Oct. 1 at New Life Assembly of God, 42493 Hwy 105, Batson and Wednesday, October 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 3730 FM 160, Raywood. Mobile Medical Day Clinics are held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Again, call 409-550-1067 to make an appointment.
Obituaries: Francine Dean, 80, of Dayton. Memorial service is Wednesday at 10 a.m. at her daughter’s home in Devers (PSFH).
