Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners met in regular session yesterday morning. Among other items on the agenda, commissioners approved donation of a van from Brazos Transit to the Liberty County Veterans Services department. According to Rolandria Webb, Veterans Services Officer, the van they currently use to take veterans to medical appointments in Houston and Beaumont, has more than 170,000 miles. The donation van has 17,000. Commissioners unanimously agreed to accept the donation from Brazos Transit. In other action, commissioners approved $10,000 for each transfer of funds from the county’s grant program to the Grace Initiative and to the Cleveland Senior Citizens to help fund the meal delivery programs.

River Ranch: Dozens turned out for the long anticipated ground breaking of the River Ranch Subdivision on Hwy 146 south of Dayton. Eddie Gray, along with several partners is developing 600 of the more than 7,000 acre area. He acted as master of ceremonies for the event. Dayton Mayor Caroline Wadzeck, County Judge Jay Knight and DISD Superintendent Dr. Jessica Johnson all helped welcome this significant development to the community. This phase will have around 230 large estate lots and 1,070 more standard residential lots. The plans also call for a 12-acre school site and roughly 135 acres for commercial real estate. The master planned community will also include a trail system throughout the development.

Baby Parade: Tve Baby Parade is coming up Saturday October 12th in Liberty as part of the TVE Country Weekend. This year’s theme is Hollywood! Divisions include walking, riding, western riding, small float and large float. Child participants can be from infant through kindergarten. Shred It: The City of Liberty will hold a Community Shred It & Recycling Event that will allow citizens to safely dispose of sensitive documents and unwanted electronics. Saturday, October 5th from 9:00am to noon or until the truck fills up.
