Flags to Half Staff: Once again Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is honoring more citizens murdered in cold blood by, as he called it, a senseless coward. He is asking Texans to lower flags to half staff. Flags should remain at half-staff through sunset on Thursday, and returned to full-staff on Friday of this week.
Golf Course Fees: The Liberty City Council has approved senior, junior and military discount rates for those playing at the now city owned golf course. These new rates apply to seniors age 60 and over, juniors, anyone 17 and younger, and those with military service, current, reserves, or veteran. Find a list of rates on the City of Liberty website.
Train v Truck: An Amtrak train carrying passengers from Los Angeles to New Orleans was involved in a crash Friday afternoon outside of Dayton when an 18-wheeler pulled into the path of the oncoming locomotive. The crash took place around 4 p.m. Friday on FM 686 East. At least 23 people were transported to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center for mostly minor injuries. None as it turned out were life-threatening according to hospital administrator Matt Thornton. He had high praise for his highly trained disaster team who responded and worked brilliantly. This is their second call out in the past year. ************************************************
Road Work: Liberty County Commissioner Leon Wilson said his precinct 4 crews will begin a complete rework and construction on CR 603, from Hwy. 90 north to CR 602. There will be complete closures of CR 603 at times during the days, off and on, starting today. The project should be completed around the end of September.
Football: The high school gridiron season kicked off Friday for most area teams. The Class 5A Dayton Broncos traveled to face the Friendswood Mustangs and lost in a shut out, Mustangs 42 Broncos 0. Also the Class 4A Liberty Panthers were at home playing the Huffman-Hargrave Falcons. That final was Huffman 34 Liberty 7. Also opening last Friday was the Barbers Hill Eagles versus Magnolia Bulldogs. Barbers Hill lost there 35-10. The Hardin Hornets shut out their visitors, Beaumont Legacy, 33- 0. And also of the games carried on KSHN.Com the Hull Daisetta Bobcats played host to the Burkeville Mustangs. That final score was Hull Daisetta 76 Burkeville 6. This was also KSHN.Com’s first week of high school coverage. Of the five games we carried the audio went off without a hitch….Our first ever video of three games struggled but did get on, except for the Liberty Panther game video. That video failed due to a defective computer connector. We’ll be fine next week – Thanks for your patience.
Obit: Frank James Sylvia, Jr. - 87. Old River-Winfree Baptist Church Service was last Friday. Frank is the Father of Chambers County Judge Jimmy Sylvia
