AP Scholars: Six Dayton High students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher. Five of these students graduated with the Class of 2019 and one will graduate with the Class of 2020. The AP Scholars are: Ryan Barnes, a 2019 graduate. Also a 2019 graduate Federico Garcia. Class of 2019 Brayant Gonzalez. This is the second year for those students to be named AP Scholars. Two other 2019 graduates, Ethan Ives and Gavin LeBlanc, and 2020 graduate, Angelo Schibetts.
Barbers Hill and Dayton: Friday is the start of another High School football season. The Dayton Broncos start their season on the road versus the Friendswood Mustangs. In last years match up Friendswood downed the Broncos 33-0. Friday’s game will kick off early at 7:00 P.M. at Henry Winston Stadium in Friendswood. Turning to Barbers Hill, the Eagles open in Magnolia to face the Bulldogs. Last year Barbers Hill was tripped up by Magnolia, 43-13. Friday’s Eagle opener in Magnolia kicks off at 7:30 PM at Bulldog Stadium. You can hear both the Broncos and the Eagles live on Go to the bottom of our webpage, and click on the team icon under the Teamline Logo. Video of the game will be available Saturday Morning also on
No Burn Ban: We get a lot of calls here at asking if we are under burn ban. The answer is NO we are not but it may be only be a matter of time. For now, there is no burn ban in Liberty, Chambers County, Jefferson or Harris counties. The cities of Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland have permanent bans on open burning, so even when we report there is no burn ban in Liberty County those city ordinances still ban open burning within limits of those three cities. Best idea, when in doubt, is to check with the fire marshal, emergency management, or county judge’s office for the official word.
Bronco Volleyball: The Bronco Varsity Volleyball team played the Lumberton Raiders in the Bronco gym Friday night and came away with an emotional win in Dayton. The first set required extra points due to a controversial call. Dayton won the first set 32-30. Then the Lady Broncos pulled out the 2nd set 25-20. Then in the 3rd set, the girls blew out their opponents with a 25-11 win. The Lady Broncos volleyball team is on the road all this week, traveling to Spring High School today, a Santa Fe Tournament Thursday and Saturday and in between that is a journey to Crosby Friday.
Obituaries: Vickie A. Fatheree, 56, of Anahuac. Services are pending with Sterling Funeral Home.
