Shooting: At about 11:45 pm Sunday night, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting gun shots had been heard and two men were lying in the roadway of CR 428 in south Liberty County. Sheriff’s Lead Investigators Robert Dunn and Steve Rasberry, reported that 20 year old Christopher Allen Wells of Dayton and 24 year old Quintin Lee Brown, also of Dayton, were riding their bicycles on CR 428 when a dark colored pick-up truck pulled alongside of them. The two victims allege an unknown male got out, struck them both with some unknown object and then began shooting each of them. Both men reported that another male, with a beard, was driving when the truck sped away towards the City of Dayton. The two injured men were taken by Life Flight air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Anyone with information is asked to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (936)336-4500 or Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392- STOP (7867).

Burglary: A Liberty County man was arrested after an alert neighbor called the Sheriff’s Office when suspicious sounds were heard coming from a camping trailer they knew to be empty early Monday morning. Sheriff’s Deputy Lucero Castro arrived and saw the burglary suspect flee the camper, dropping several stolen guns as he fled into the nearby woods. Other members of law enforcement quickly arrived and that additional manpower allowed a perimeter to be set up around the wooded area. Tracking dogs were called in from TDCJ. Just before the dogs arrived, a woman called the Sheriff’s Office to report a man was on her front porch. He claimed he was being chased by the father of his girl friend and needed a place to hide. The caller asked if the Sheriff’s Office wanted her to hold this man at gun point until deputies arrived. Pct. 2 Deputy Constable John Tucker took the suspect, identified as Israel Allen Martinez, age 20 and a resident of Liberty County. He was charged with Burglary of a Habitation as well as an outstanding warrant out of Pct. 4 for Evading Arrest.
