Prop 3: In November Texans will vote on several proposed amendments to the Texas constitution. One of those, Proposition 3 would allow taxing entities to give temporary exemptions on property damaged by a natural disaster. State Representative District 18 Ernest Bailes while on a recent Partyline program said it simply allows for some help when people are facing repairs following a disaster. The exact wording of the proposed amendment reads as follows: “The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to provide for a temporary exemption from ad valorem taxation of a portion of the appraised value of certain property damaged by a disaster.”

Election: Tuesday during their regular monthly meeting, Commissioners approved the county’s local elections in the Nov. 5 general election. On an earlier Partyline on KSHN.COM Lee Chambers, Liberty County Clerk said the governor has officially ordered the special election to approve amendments that the Legislature passed. Another issue on the local ballot is a local option election in Pct. 6 for alcohol sales. This however will not affect the City of Cleveland or the City of North Cleveland. For the rest of Pct. 6, they will vote on whether to sell alcohol in appropriate locations. Cleveland ISD’s $195 million bond referendum will be decided in the general election as will a sales tax increase for Emergency Services District No. 7 in Hardin.
