Fatality Accident: A 34-year-old Daisetta truck driver died yesterday in a one-vehicle accident on FM 834 at the Long Island Bridge. DPS Sgt. Eric Burse identified the deceased driver as Douglas Garness II. According to DPS reports, Mr. Garness was eastbound when the vacuum truck he was driving drifted off the roadway, struck a guardrail and then rolled down an embankment, coming to rest in the creek. That accident occurred around 12:07 a.m. yesterday. Ironically, his father also died in a truck accident. Back in 1986, KSHN reported extensively on the death of Doug Garness I. He died when the vacuum truck he was driving was involved in an explosion at an oil well site along Highway 90 in the Raywood area.
