DISD Runoff Election: Early voting continues today through Friday in the June 18 runoff election for Dayton school trustee Position 2. We reported the May 4 election ended with a tie between Chris Shumaker and Barry Pruitt, who each received 283 votes. Liberty County Clerk Lee Haidusek-Chambers said early voting began last Thursday with 116 Dayton ISD voters casting a ballot. Another 121 voted on Friday. So far, that’s a two-day, early-voting total of 237. Early voting continues in the Dayton ISD runoff election today through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day is a week from tomorrow – that’s Tuesday, June 18, with voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Registered voters living in the Dayton school district are eligible to vote. All voting will be at the Dayton Community Center, 801 S. Cleveland Street.

Internet Safety Seminar: Dayton Police Department is teaming up with Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center and Dayton ISD to hold a computer safety seminar tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the police department on S.H. 321. This class is designed for adults to learn ways to protect their children from online sexual predators. Organizers stress this event is not for children and it will contain very frank discussions on the dangers children face on the internet. This event is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your seat, call Bridgehaven Outreach Coordinator Meagan Croker at 936-258-0400.

Taste of Dayton: The 15th Annual Taste of Dayton expo is this Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Dayton Community Center. This year’s circus-related theme is “Under the Big Top”. Sponsored by the Dayton Chamber of Commerce, the popular event features area businesses promoting their products and services while also providing a tasty treat. Admission to the expo is $5 for adults and $2 for children age 12 and under. Dayton Chamber Executive Director Paula Moorhaj said there are still business booths available, but space is limited. For info, call the Dayton Chamber during business hours at 936-257-2393.
