Hurricane Season Forecast: Hurricane season began this past Saturday, and forecasters are now increasing their predictions slightly for the possibility of a hurricane making landfall in the U.S. this year. According to the Colorado State University revised forecast, there still will be 13 named tropical storms, but those researchers now say six of those storms may reach hurricane force. That is up one from their previous estimates. The forecasters predict two of those storms will reach major status with sustained winds of at least 111 miles per hour. In their latest forecast model, experts now predict the Gulf Coast - from the Florida Panhandle westward to Brownsville in Texas – has a 31 percent chance of being struck by a major hurricane.
