‘Wall of Honor Memorial’ Ceremony: There is a public ceremony this coming Monday to commemorate refurbishment of Dayton’s “Wall of Honor Memorial” that was damaged by Hurricane Harvey back in 2017. The city of Dayton applied for and received a grant from Entergy Texas to help with the rehabilitation project. That ceremony is Monday at 10 a.m. at the memorial in front of the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street. Everyone is invited, and light refreshments will be served. If it rains, the event will be moved into the community center. For information, call Dayton City Planning Director Assistant Tami Green at 936-258-2642.
Hurricane Preparedness Workshop: The 2019 Liberty County Hurricane Preparedness Workshop has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 4, at 6 p.m. in the Jack Hartel Community Center in Liberty. That event was originally planned for earlier this month but was canceled due to high winds and heavy rain. According to Liberty County Emergency Management Coordinator Crista Beasley-Adams, the June 4 workshop will feature experts addressing important issues regarding the upcoming hurricane season. That begins June 1 and goes through November 30. They will also have lots of free pamphlets, booklets and other very important information. A reminder - for helpful tips, supply lists and emergency preparation information, go to our homepage at and click on disaster preparation under the local information tab.
Dayton FFA: The 2019 Dayton FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo continues through tomorrow at the Anson Rigby Memorial Arena on Hwy 321 in Dayton. Livestock judging in the arena continues today and tomorrow with the all-important auction tomorrow afternoon. There are rodeo performances and judging in the queen’s competition tonight and tomorrow. Those activities are at 8 both nights. Of course, the Dayton Young Farmers Barbecue gets under way at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Then at 12:30 tomorrow afternoon comes the Youth Livestock Auction. A minimum $100 donation to the Dayton FFA 100 Club entitles members to a chance at winning one of the animals purchased by the 100 Club in a drawing held after the auction. To find out more about the Dayton FFA 100 Club, call the Dayton High School Ag Department at 936-258-2510, ext. 9.
