Electrical Work in Liberty: We reported Liberty City Council has hired local contractor Texas Elite Electrical to beef up the city’s understaffed electrical department. Liberty Mayor Carl Pickett said it has proven very difficult to find qualified people to fill vacancies in that department. Mayor Pickett said Texas Elite Electrical will provide designated employees to work exclusively for the city. Liberty City Manager Tom Warner said residents who see Texas Elite trucks and personnel responding to electrical problems should know they do work for the city. However, Mr. Warner said always be wary. He said no electrical department employee will ever need to come into your home. A request to do so should be treated as a reason to call the police.
Softball & Baseball Playoffs: The Liberty Lady Panthers softball team plays in the Regional Quarterfinals this week. It’s a one-and-done against Splendora. That game is Friday at 7 p.m. at a neutral site - Humble High School. KSHN Radio will broadcast that Lady Panthers softball game Friday. Turning now to Liberty baseball, the Panthers are in a best-of-three Area round series against West Columbia. All of those baseball games will be played at neutral site - Grand Oaks High School in Spring. Game one is Friday at 4:30 p.m. with Game 2 Saturday at noon. If necessary, Game 3 will be Saturday at 6 p.m. KSHN will broadcast Saturday’s noon baseball game between Liberty and West Columbia. Then, after that game ends, you can hear LJs “Saturday Afternoon Affair” on FM 99.9.
Shred It: The next City of Liberty free document shredding and electronics recycling event is Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon, or until the truck fills up, at the City Hall parking lot. This free service is for everyone, not just residents of the City of Liberty.
LCSO Employee of the Month: Deputy Danielle Barry has been honored as the Liberty County Sheriff’s Employee of the Month for May. A patrol deputy, she has been with the sheriff’s office since graduating from the Mainland Police Academy in 2017. Sheriff Bobby Rader encourages the public to join him in saluting Deputy Barry for her service and a job well done.
