Election Day: This Saturday is Election Day for city and school districts across Texas. Liberty County Clerk Lee Haidusek Chambers said voting in the Cleveland ISD School Board and $250 million bond elections is at both the Cleveland Civic Center and Plum Grove’s First Baptist Church. All voting in the Hardin City Council election is at Hardin City Hall while Liberty City Council voting is at the Jack Hartel Building. Ames residents cast ballots in their city’s election at Ames City Hall. All voting is Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For information, call the Liberty County Clerk’s Office at 936-336-4670 or link to the clerk’s webpage from kshn.com.

I-69 Construction Project: A $102 million project to widen and convert U.S. 59 into Interstate 69 is now under way in the Cleveland area. During coming months, drivers can expect to see crews beginning to work on the new southbound frontage road. According to a press release from Texas Department of Transportation, when the overall project is completed in 2021, the highway will include three lanes in each direction with continuous frontage roads. Also, the intersection of I-69 at S.H. 105 will be reconstructed into a traditional style interchange connected to the frontage roads. The four-mile stretch will be re-designated I-69 once all construction is complete.

Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge Manager Stuart Marcus said the popular recreational spot has been shut down to the public because of high water levels. He said Champion Lake will reopen as soon as the water drops below the deck on the fishing pier. The boat ramp along the Pickett Bayou side is also closed.
