Early Voting: Early voting continues for the May 4th city and school election weekdays through next Tuesday. In the first two days of early voting, 79 people voted at the Dayton Community Center in the Dayton City Council, DISD and ESD#3 races. Another 51 have cast ballots at the Jack Hartel Community Building for the City of Liberty general and special elections. Nine people have voted early at the Jack Hartel building in the City of Ames election. 31 Hardin residents have voted in that city’s election at Hardin City Hall. Up in Cleveland, 82 people have cast ballots for the CISD’s $250 million bond election. For voting info, call the county clerk’s office at 936-336-4670.

Playoff Softball: The Dayton Lady Broncos face Friendswood in the first round of the state playoffs. That is a one-and-done game today at 6:30 p.m. in Friendswood. KSHN will broadcast that game. Then, tomorrow the Liberty Lady Panthers continue their best-of-three playoff series against the Little Cypress Mauriceville Lady Bears. Game two is in Liberty tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m. If a third game is needed, it will follow 30 minutes after game two concludes. Those two Liberty games can also be heard here on KSHN FM 99.9.

Bark in the Park: Local Girl Scout Lawren Slaughter of Dayton is holding a special event Saturday called “Bark in the Park” to bring awareness to the importance of adopting rescue dogs from shelters. The community is invited to Liberty Municipal Park Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A dog parade is set for 11. Entry into the parade is $5, and proceeds will go to the animal shelters in both Liberty and Dayton as well as Puppy Dogs-R-Us. She is also accepting donations of dog food, cat food, kitty litter, blankets and dog toys. For information on Bark in the Park or to reserve a vendor space, call 832-248-7205. Lawren Slaughter is a member of Girl Scout Troop 5552 in Dayton and is currently working on this project for her Gold Award - that is the highest recognition a Girl Scout can earn.
