Shooting in Liberty: A 31-year-old Liberty man is facing multiple charges following reports of shots fired early yesterday. Liberty Police Lt. Chip Fairchild said police responded to the area around City Hall shortly after 1 a.m. after residents in the area reported gunshots and two vehicles speeding away. Based on information gathered, he said Tyree Patterson reportedly had stopped another vehicle and assaulted one of its occupants. A short time later the vehicle crossed paths with Patterson again. It was at that point that the victims reported being shot at. Tyree Patterson was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Drug Free Zone, Possession of Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone and Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Anyone with info is asked to call Liberty Police Department at 936-336-5666.

Free Measles Vaccinations: Reports of measles cases across the U.S. have risen in recent weeks, with the Centers for Disease Control reporting 626 cases in 22 states so far this year as of last Thursday. That is the highest total in the past five years. Experts say measles is a contagious virus that is mostly preventable with a vaccination. With that in mind, several local businesses are teaming up to offer a free measles, mumps and rubella or MMR vaccination clinic on Saturday. It’s from 8 a.m. to noon at the Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center Rural Health Clinic on North Travis Street in Liberty. No appointment is necessary. It is for both children and adults who have not already been vaccinated. It’s made possible by First Liberty National Bank, the Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center, KSHN Radio and Texas Vaccines for Children. For info, call 936-336-9175.

Subdivision Plat: Liberty County Commissioners approved the final plat for a new subdivision during yesterday’s regular meeting. Earlier this month, we reported commissioners approved the preliminary plat for Trey Harris’ Santa Fe Section 4 northeast of Plum Grove for the addition of 1,400 residential lots. Yesterday, commissioners gave their final OK to that new subdivision plat. Of note, Sections 1, 2 and 3 include 5,196 lots. So, with the latest section, Santa Fe now has 6,596 lots.
