Early Voting Hours: Early voting for the May 4 city and school elections continues weekdays through next Tuesday, April 30, at the Jack Hartel Community Center in Liberty, the Dayton Community Center, Hardin City Hall and the Cleveland Civic Center. Early voting hours in Cleveland are different than those in Liberty, Dayton and Hardin. Early voting at the Cleveland Civic Center is weekdays - today through Monday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then on Tuesday, April 30, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting in Liberty, Dayton and Hardin is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday and then from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Monday and Tuesday, April 29 and 30. If you have questions about where to vote, call the Liberty County Clerk’s Office during normal business hours at 936-336-4670.
BJ Ford Car Show: The Fourth Annual BJ Ford Car Show is this Saturday. Registration for those entering the show begins at 9 a.m. and continues until noon at BJ Ford on Highway 90 in Liberty. An awards presentation is set for 2:30 p.m. A food truck will be onsite serving brisket, pulled pork, sausage and hot dogs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with proceeds benefiting the Liberty VFW. It’s $25 to enter a vehicle in the show, but that entry fee also benefits the VFW. Veterans can enter their vehicles for free. There is no charge to stop by and look at all the interesting vehicles, including the #21 Wood Brothers’ Motorcraft Mustang show car. Sign up at BJ Ford or online at
Applicator Training: The Liberty County AgriLife Extension Service will hold another Private Pesticide Applicator Training Tuesday, May 7. This class is for those who want to obtain a license to apply pesticides that are otherwise restricted by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Please note - this is just the training course. The required state testing is done weekly at locations in Houston. Advance registration is required. Entry deadline is Friday, May 3rd. Cost for the training is $75. Shred Day: Mark your calendar - the City of Dayton is hosting another free document shredding event on Saturday, June 15. It is open to anyone, not just Dayton residents. The free commercial shredding of sensitive documents is set for 9 a.m. to noon or until the truck fills up at the Dayton Community Center.
