County Growth: Liberty County is growing – no question about that - and the latest example of the rapid rate of that growth came during commissioners’ court Tuesday morning. At their regular meeting, Liberty County commissioners approved two final plats for subdivisions. They also adopted a re-plat of another and gave their preliminary OK to a fourth subdivision. Based on action taken by commissioners, a total of 1,866 new residential lots will soon be on the market in Liberty County.
Ole Tyme Days: The 27th Annual Dayton Ole Tyme Days is tomorrow through Sunday in downtown Dayton. Proceeds from this yearly event go toward scholarships for Dayton High School graduating seniors. Organizers say Dayton Ole Tyme Days is a family friendly festival with fun for everyone. There will be live entertainment, carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors, and – of course – lots of food. Volunteer Anna Smith said there are still spaces open for teams to enter the BBQ Cookoff. To enter, call David Taylor at 936-402-4634. Junior chili competitors can call Brandy Henderson at 832-998-1487. For information on all the activities, go to the Dayton Ole Tyme Days website. You can link there from the top of our homepage at
DHS Students to Nationals: Nineteen Dayton High School students were in Dallas April 3-5 for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America or FCCLA State Leadership Conference. Dayton High School’s group received the Outstanding Silver Chapter Award. Adult leader Debra Stephenson was honored as the Region IV Advisor of the Year. In student competition, the Dayton team of Carolina Tinajero and Cherokee Johnson placed second in the category of Applied Math in Culinary Management. That qualifies the pair for Nationals June 29-July 5 in Anaheim California. Also attending the National Conference are incoming Region IV officers for Dayton. They are Rueben Aguilar Jr and Marina Castillo.
