Crossroads: The Dayton Enhancement Committee continues to make improvements at The Crossroads on U.S. 90, next to Jack in the Box, in Dayton. That’s the site of the popular Food Truck Friday. Vintage car shows and a farmer’s market are also held there. There is a flag disposal box and a LED sign that electronically tells of community events. Soon, it will have an engraved brick area honoring Dayton first-responders and civil servants. Recently, the water tank reproduction, like those used a century ago by steam engines, was moved from the west side of town to The Crossroads. That smaller tank will soon be replaced on the western edge of Dayton with a much larger tank.
Administration Professional Luncheon: The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber’s popular Administrative Professionals Luncheon is set for Wednesday, April 24, in the Liberty Center at City Hall. Chamber President Mary Anne Campbell said this luncheon celebrates Administrative Professionals Day and recognizes the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, office managers, receptionists and other administrative support personnel. Area businesses and organizations donate gifts to be given away to these special guests. Reservations are required, and tickets are $15 each. To make reservations or donate a gift, call the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber at 936-336-5736.
Historical Marker Dedications: The Liberty County Historical Commission will hold two historical marker dedication ceremonies this Saturday for cemeteries in south Liberty County. The first is Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Linney-Acie Cemetery at the corner of Linney and Colbert streets in Dayton. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church of Dayton. Then the commission will hold another historical marker dedication at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Abshier Cemetery on County Road 112 near Hankamer. The public is invited.
Computer Classes: Jones Public Library in Dayton will offer free basic computer classes April 23 - May 9. Classes will be offered in Spanish on Tuesdays and in English on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. both days. For info, call 936-258-7060.
Obituaries: Kathryn Ann Phillips, 61, of Hull. Service 10 a.m. today at Pace-Stancil in Dayton.
