Local Killed in Crosby Plant Explosion: The individual killed in Tuesday’s KMCO plant explosion in Crosby is from Daisetta. The individual who died has been identified as 27-year-old James Earl “Bubba” Mangum of Daisetta. Two people were also critically injured in that explosion. At last report, those names have not been released.

Liberty Assistant City Manager: City Manager Tom Warner said the city has hired Chris Jarmon as Liberty’s Assistant City Manager. Liberty Council approved the creation of that position during the last budget cycle. Chris Jarmon comes to Liberty from serving as Assistant City Manager of Beaumont. Tom Warner said Chris Jarmon will be assisting primarily in the area of economic development. His first day on the job is Monday.

Child Abuse Prevention Month: April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center is working to get the word out. Sadly, child abuse is an issue in Liberty and Chambers counties. In fact, last year, Bridgehaven served 382 children in the two counties involving allegations of child abuse. Among its services, Bridgehaven offers a variety of presentations to groups, including churches, schools and civic organizations throughout the two counties of Chambers and Liberty. Masonic Clay Shoot: Liberty Masonic Lodge is holding a sporting clays benefit this Saturday at Pecan Meadows Sporting Center on FM 834. Money raised from the clay shoot will go toward scholarships and other charitable efforts. Saturday’s benefit involves competition for all shooters, and the event includes lunch plus a raffle for a Browning gun safe. BJ Ford Car Show: The 4th Annual BJ Ford Car Show is set for Saturday April 27th. Registration for those entering the show begins at 9 a.m. that morning and continues until 2:30 p.m. BJ Ford Managing Partner Robert Dunn said the $25 entry fee benefits the Liberty VFW. There is no charge to stop by and look at all the interesting vehicles.
