Historic Church Burns: A historic church in north Liberty County was destroyed by fire early Sunday. Liberty County Fire Marshall Bill Hergemuller said a neighbor reported the fire at Little Flock Baptist Church around 8:20 a.m. Sunday. The 132-year-old church is located on CR 2192 between Cleveland and Rayburn. Firefighters from Cleveland, Tarkington, North Liberty County and South Polk County responded and put out the blaze. As is standard procedure for church fires, the state fire marshal’s office and ATF were notified. Investigators from those agencies were at the church yesterday along with a trained canine. Based on the investigation, Mr. Hergemuller said the fire would be ruled accidental and of unknown origin. Church Pastor L.D. Allen told officials the sanctuary was insured.
