Burglar Caught in Act: Liberty police arrested a 22-year-old man Monday, reportedly caught in the act of committing a burglary. Liberty PD Lt. Chip Fairchild said police responded to a burglary in progress in the 1700 block of Kipling Street around 3:15 p.m. The homeowner - not at the house at the time - called police because she had received a notification of motion on her home’s video cameras. Upon arrival, officers reportedly saw Kevin D. Chambers exciting the home with electronic items taken from inside the house. He is now charged with Burglary of a Habitation. At last report, he remains in Liberty County Jail with bail set at $30,000.

Commissioners Court: Liberty County Commissioners have authorized County Attorney Matthew Poston to negotiate with a landowner to acquire property for what’s called a “roundabout” in the Plum Grove area. During Tuesday’s regular meeting of commissioners’ court, the county attorney said there are efforts under way to construct a roundabout at the intersection of FM 2090 and FM 1010. Experts say roundabouts, also known as traffic circles, improve traffic flow and safety. Mr. Poston said a county resident has been willing to pay for the property acquisition and then donate the land to the state to make that roundabout possible. However, Matthew Poston said the landowners of one of the pieces of property needed for the project have been resistant to selling a 150-foot strip of land. If the county is unable to purchase the property, commissioners could then use imminent domain procedures to acquire the land.
