Top Citizens: The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards banquet Tuesday and paid tribute to two community members for their many years of volunteer service. The Chamber recognized Frank Jordan as Citizen of the Year for Liberty while Julie Campbell is Citizen of the Year for Dayton.

Road Work: Texas Department of Transportation reports there will be alternating lane closures today through Monday along Highway 90. The department will be conducting survey work on US 90 between FM 563 in Liberty and State Highway 61 in Devers. The alternating lane closures will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.

Valley Players: The Valley Players local theater group will present a delightful comedy this weekend. “Let Him Sleep ‘Til It’s Time for His Funeral” is a play by Peg Kehret. The production is set for 7 p.m. Saturday with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. in the Humphreys-Burson Theatre, 1710 Sam Houston Street in Liberty. Tickets are $10 each. BB Playoffs: The East Chambers Buccaneers boys’ basketball team has advanced to the Regional Semifinals of the Class 3A state playoffs. The Buccaneers take on the Malakoff Tigers tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at Midway High School in Waco. The other semifinal pits Crockett against Coldspring-Oakhurst. The winners of those two contests face off Saturday at 1 p.m., also in the Midway gymnasium. The victor advances to the state tournament next week at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
