Jobs: One of the prime goals of any economic development organization is bringing new jobs to the community they serve. That includes the Dayton Community Development Corporation. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said truth be told, certain jobs are easy enough to attract. It’s when the jobs you are trying to attract are considered high paying prime employment that the competition becomes not just regional, but national. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said the creation of economic development corporations or EDCs in Texas have only been possible in recent years, so the Lone Star State is still playing catch up with other states on economic development issues.
Hardin ISD: The Hardin School District have the option of cancelling the May 4th Election for the Hardin School Board. Only the incumbents filed to run for their open council seats. They are James “Bubba” Campbell at Position #3 on Hardin School Board, Dana (day-nuh) Holst at Position #4 and the Position #5 Hardin School Board Incumbent Charles Bolds. Since none of the school board races are contested, state law allows the Hardin School District to cancel their election and that is expected to happen.
TPWD: The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is now accepting public comments on proposed changes to hunting and fishing regulations for 2019 -2020. The proposed changes to freshwater fishing in Texas include modifying some of the length limits and harvest regulations for largemouth bass, Alabama bass and alligator gar. Comments on any of these proposed regulation changes can be made at the Texas Parks and Wildlife web site public comment page. Link there from Public comments must be received by March 19th.
Dayton City Council: The Dayton City Council met Tuesday and agreed to renew the city’s contract with the Dayton Chamber of Commerce to handle day to day operations at the Dayton Community Center. Dayton Chamber Director Paula Moorhaj responded to some concerns the she had never stopped attempting to find some way to bring a gun show back to the Dayton Community Center and pointed to increased revenue from renting the community center over the past year. The vote was three to one for the Dayton Chamber of Commerce to continue to operate the community center.
