May 4 Elections: There are three positions on the Cleveland City Council up for election on May 4. So far, only the three incumbents have filed to run for those seats. They are council members Carolyn McWaters – Position 1, and Marilyn Clay – Position 2, plus Cleveland Mayor Otis Cohn. The candidate filing period for all regular city and school district elections continues through Friday, Feb. 15. The lone exception to that deadline is the City of Liberty’s special election. Candidates who want to run for the unexpired council term of Paul Glazener have until March 4 to sign up. To date, only William Neal Thornton has filed in the special Liberty council election.
My Social Security: While millions of Americans have taken advantage of the online services available from the Social Security Administration, there are still many more people that have not. Andy Hardwick of the Houston Social Security office said having a My Social Security Account is easy to create and provides access to the many free services that can help people plan the financial future. In addition to allowing individuals to keep track of their work history and update it as needed, he said benefit amounts can be calculated at any point in a person’s work history. There are tips on financial planning as well as news on federal legislation affecting Social Security. Mr. Hardwick also recommends using the My Social Security Account to regularly check to make sure all your benefit information is correct. Link safely to the Social Security website from You can also call the Beaumont office at 866-613-2864 or the nationwide number at 800-772-1213.
