Voting Machines: Liberty County commissioners approved the purchase of a new voting system from a company called Hart InterCivic during Tuesday’s regular meeting. Cost of the voting equipment is $622,016. Liberty County Clerk Lee Haidusek-Chambers said the old equipment is 15 years old, has been discontinued and is failing. The new machines are expected to be in place by the upcoming May 4 city and school elections.
LCSO Special Response Team: A law enforcement special response team is made of officers within a given agency who respond to high risk situations beyond the capabilities of traditional law enforcement with specialized equipment, weapons and tactics. If that sounds a lot like the traditional special weapons and tactic or SWAT teams, it is. Deputy Josh Cummins coordinates the Liberty County Sheriff’s SRT. Speaking recently to the Liberty Rotary Club, Deputy Cummins said the Special Response Team is made up of 15 officers and is fully funded through police seizures of drug money.
Crime Stoppers: Mark your calendars - Multi-County Crime Stoppers will sponsor a fundraising concert with country music legends Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers. The event is set for Saturday, May 4, at 8 p.m. at Conroe’s Crighton Theater. The concert benefits the non-profit Multi-County Crime Stoppers organization that offers cash rewards for information leading to arrests for felony crimes in Liberty, Montgomery and San Jacinto counties. GOP Meeting: The next Liberty County Republican Party quarterly meeting is set for Tuesday, February 5, at Generations Coffee Shop, 1806 Sam Houston street in Liberty. Guest speaker is James Dickey, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. He will discuss the 86th Texas Legislative Session and whether or not Republican lawmakers are delivering on advancing the Republican Party of Texas platform. Chairman Dickey will also explain how important rural counties will be in the 2020 election cycle. Everyone is welcome.
