Holiday Closings: The Liberty County Courthouse and all city offices in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – that’s this coming Monday and Tuesday. Those offices will all reopen for regular hours on Wednesday, December 26. Banks and post offices will be closed on Christmas Day only – that’s Tuesday, December 25. However, some banks and many retailers may be planning to close early on Monday. Garbage service in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland will not operate on Christmas, but regular trash pickup service in those towns will resume the following day.

FLNB: About 100 people were on hand Thursday when Liberty County’s oldest banking institution broke ground on its latest expansion. First Liberty National Bank’s fifth full-service banking location will be going up along U.S. 90 in nearby China. First Liberty National Bank was founded in Liberty in 1913 as Liberty State Bank. The name became First Liberty National in 1925. In 1998, the bank opened a second location, this time in Dayton. In recent years, First Liberty banking locations have also been added in Hardin and Huffman.
****************************************************Scam Warning: Here is another scam warning – Cleveland ISD Director of Communications Susan Ard said they have had reports of a company claiming to represent the Cleveland school district selling T-shirts and advertisements. However, she said the company is not working on behalf of the district. Mrs. Ard identified the company in question as working under the name of End Zone Athletics. Again, despite that business’ claims, Susan Ard said the company is not working in conjunction with the Cleveland school district.

Live Nativity: Christians around the world will be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ next Tuesday. To commemorate that historical event, First United Methodist Church of Liberty will be holding its annual live nativity this Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. The oldest church in Liberty County has been holding this special depiction of the birth of Christ for more than half a century. Children who would like to participate should be there by 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Then, on Monday at 7 p.m., the community is invited to the sanctuary for a Christmas Eve service. First United Methodist is at 539 Main Street in Liberty.
