Grand Parkway Time Frame: At this time, most know the planned path of the Grand Parkway – SH 99 - through Liberty County is expected to bring unprecedented population growth plus commercial expansion to Liberty County, especially in the Dayton area. The question remains – when? Dayton Community Development Corporation Executive Director Courtland Holman said the timetable for construction to begin here is getting shorter. The latest prediction is that ground will be broken on Grand Parkway construction in Liberty County in 2019 with the highway’s opening date here now set at February 2022.
Branch Cemetery: Liberty County Commissioners voted to accept the deed for the historic Branch Cemetery from the City of Liberty Tuesday. We’ve reported Liberty council voted last week to deed, without warranty, the property for the preservation of the historic cemetery. For some background, there is litigation pending over access to the one acre cemetery located on Cypress Street inside Liberty city limits. It is the resting place of E. T. Branch and his family. During Tuesday’s commissioners’ court meeting, Liberty County Attorney Matthew Poston said he is willing to help the Liberty County Historical Commission work through the legal hurdles to gain full access to the cemetery.
Dayton: Dayton council finalized some tentative agreements with Gulf Inland Logistics Park at Monday’s meeting. First, council accepted the voluntarily annexation of the Gulf Inland property and surrounding area into the Dayton city limits. Dayton council also approved an agreement with CMC Railroad, the company that operates the logistics park, for future infrastructure improvements in the TIRZ.
Find Santa: The ‘Find Santa’ game continues through next Monday on KSHN FM 99.9. Yesterday, Janice Hartzog of Dayton was the latest winner. She found the jolly elf shopping at Potetz Home Center to win $140. So far, KSHN Radio has given away a total of $550 in Christmas cash.
