Fatality Accident: A 52-year-old Sugarland woman died Monday in a vehicle accident on Highway 90 near Whispering Meadows Baptist Church in Dayton. According to information from Dayton Police Captain John Coleman, a passenger car driven by Joann Lucille Basco of Dayton was eastbound when it was struck from behind by an SUV driven by Corliss Viator of Liberty. A third vehicle driven by Sandra Bowers of Dayton took evasive action to avoid the accident, but her vehicle still sustained minor damage. Captain Coleman said a passenger in the car that was struck from behind was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct 4 Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn. She has been identified as Cynthia Elizabeth Phillips, age 52, of Sugarland.

Human Skull Found: Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a partial human skull found in North Liberty County over the weekend. Sheriff’s Department Captain Ken DeFoor said a homeowner on C.R. 325 told investigators the family pet dog probably brought the skull into their yard from the nearby woods last Friday. A search by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and Texas EquuSearch turned up no other remains in that area. Captain DeFoor said the skull will be examined and the investigation will continue to identify the partial remains found in the Plum Grove area.
