Liberty Council: Liberty City Council is scheduled to meet this coming Tuesday at 6 p.m. One item on the agenda is discussion of someone to fill a city council seat left vacant by the recent resignation of Paul Glazener. Liberty City Secretary Dianne Tidwell said the city received 10 applications from individuals who want to serve on city council. The individual selected will serve the remainder of Mr. Glazener’s term on council, from now thru May 2020. It is not known if Liberty City Council will make a decision on selecting a new member of council on Tuesday, but it is expected to be a topic for council discussion.
Dayton Growth Planning: The city of Dayton continues to prepare for the coming population and commercial growth associated with the path of S.H. 99 - the Grand Parkway - through Liberty County. Those efforts include comprehensive plans for virtually every aspect of building in the city and the creation of a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone to attract industrial prospects. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said final work still needs to be completed on the city’s Master Parks Plan, Downtown Revitalization Plan and Land Use Plan, but he hopes those will be finished by early 2019.
Chamber Luncheon: Make plans to attend this month’s Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce’s noon luncheon on Wednesday, December 19, at the Liberty Center. This month’s guest speaker is District 18 State Representative Ernest Bailes. The $10 luncheon will be catered by Pamala Talbot, executive chef and owner of Blue Plate Catering. The meal will include sliced ham, au gratin potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert, tea and water. For reservations, call the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber during business hours at 936-336-5736.
Football Playoffs: The Class 3A East Chambers Buccaneers football team has advanced to the state quarterfinals. The 12-1 Buccaneers face the 11-2 Grandview Zebras. Kickoff is tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Mustang Stadium in Madisonville. The winner moves on to the state semifinals to take on the victor of the Edna versus Yoakum matchup.
