Sexual Abuse: The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest following an outcry of sexual abuse from a juvenile female. Liberty County Sheriffs Captain Ken Defoor said on November 1st the child told her mother and school officials about the allegations, who in turn, contacted the local Child Protective Services. According to the investigation, the alleged sexual abuse has been taking place over the last several years. James Russel Clymer, age 35, was placed in the Liberty County Jail on the Felony charge while the investigation continues for any other possible victims or possible additional charges. JP Stephen Hebert set bond at $100,000.
Dayton: With population growth expected to boom in the City of Dayton in the near future, all those new residents will need places to live. Since May, the City of Dayton Planning and Permitting Department has platted more than 400 new homes. Along with all those people comes the challenge of providing city services, water, sewer, drainage, police and fire protection. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said finding ways to provide those services and to do it before the population growth actually arrives has become the focus of a huge effort by Dayton City Council and Staff.
Liberty Projects: Several major infrastructure improvement projects in the city of Liberty continue to move forward. That includes millions of dollars in renovations to the city’s sanitary sewer system. Liberty City Manager Tom Warner said the most visible of those projects is replacement of sewer lines on Hwy 90 beginning at Bowie Street. He said crews have been forced to do what is called micro-tunneling since the sewer line to be replaced is too deep underground for other methods. Another big project for the city- upgrading the electrical distribution system - is finally nearing completion.
Country Christmas: The Annual City of Liberty Country Christmas is coming up on Tuesday November 27th in downtown Liberty. The free holiday celebration for the entire family starts with the lighted parade at 6 p.m. A full evening of Christmas fun then gets underway around Liberty City Hall. Country Christmas is sponsored by the City of Liberty and the Liberty Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. Country Christmas Parade entries are being accepted now call 936-336-3684.
