Election Day: Tomorrow is Election Day. Statewide races on the ballot include Texas governor and lieutenant governor as well as a U.S. Senate race. Locally, there is a contested race for the U.S. Congressional 36 seat, which includes Liberty and Chambers counties plus all or part of seven other counties in southeast Texas. There are also contested races for State Senate District 3 and State Representative District 18 – both serve Liberty County in the state legislature. In addition, there is a countywide contested race for county clerk here in Liberty County plus a race for Precinct 6 JP. Voting is tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. by assigned voter precinct. Turkey Orders: The Liberty Fire Department is once again taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys – either smoked or fried. Smoked turkeys are $45, and fried turkeys are $50. The Liberty Fire Department will be taking turkey orders through Saturday, November 17. All the money raised by turkey sales will be used to purchase necessary equipment for Liberty’s volunteer firefighters. Thanksgiving turkeys will be ready for pick up on Wednesday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the fire station, 1912 Lakeland Drive in Liberty. Football: Just one week remains in the high school football season before the state playoffs begin. Recapping Week 10 action from Friday night, the Liberty Panthers fell to 5-3 on the season with a Friday night loss to the West Orange-Stark Mustangs. Final score was the Mustangs 33, the Panthers 24. Turning to Dayton, the Broncos remain winless at 0-9 after a loss to the Santa Fe Indians. That score was the Indians 43, Dayton 40. Barbers Hill drops to 6-3 after falling to Port Neches Groves. It was PNG 31, Barbers Hill 14. In other action, West Sabine topped Hull-Daisetta 35-28, and Buna steamrolled Hardin 70-14. Jasper downed Tarkington 54-24 while Lamar Consolidated shutout Cleveland 59-0. It was East Chambers dominating Anahuac 57-21.
