Sam Houston Center: The public is invited to a special program on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center on FM 1011 in far north Liberty. The free program will provide a detailed look at what is known as the Andy Kyle collection of valuable artifacts from the pre-history of what was once was the Atascocito District. The event will be held at the historic Jean and Price Daniel House on the grounds. For more information, call 936-336-8821.
Dayton Chamber Lunch: Dayton Chamber of Commerce’s monthly noon luncheon is next Tuesday in the Dayton Community Center. Guest speaker is Toni Harris Taylor, a marketing trainer and coach. The $15 meal will be catered by Pappy’s Barbecue. For information or reservations, call the Dayton Chamber at 936-257-2393.
Friday Night Football: It’s Homecoming night for the Dayton Broncos who face their next-door neighbor rivals, the Barbers Hill Eagles, in the first week of District 12-5A action. Kickoff is 7:30 tonight. Class 4A Liberty is on the road in Splendora for a 7 p.m. start. Class 2A Hull-Daisetta travels to Kountze at 7:30 while Class 3A Hardin celebrates Homecoming versus Warren at 7:30. Listen live at – just click on your team’s logo at the bottom of our homepage. You can also hear the Liberty-Dayton games on FM 99.9 with our split-channel sports feature. Panther fans should turn their stereo balance control to the left while Dayton supporters can listen on the right side.
Homecoming: It’s Homecoming week in Dayton and Hardin. During tonight’s Hardin halftime, both the queen and king will be crowned. Hardin’s queen candidates are Skylar Brown, Chloe Miles and Jaci Sims. Hardin King finalists are Tommy Battestin, Adrian Chavira and Darius White. Dayton’s Homecoming queen will also be crowned at halftime. DHS queen candidates are Tonya Adams, Brooke Alley and McKenzie Lujan. This year’s Dayton king will be crowned during today’s pep rally. King finalists are Benjamin Cruz and Jonny Hoy.
