Murder Charge: A Houston woman has been arrested in connection with a two-year-old murder case. Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said sheriff’s deputies, working with Houston police, arrested 41-year-old Sabrina Olarosa Garcia for the 2016 murder of Esmeralda Pargas. It was back in August of 2016 when Pargas, age 41 at the time, was reported missing from her Houston home. Later that month, on Aug. 28, skeletal remains were found by property owners in the Plum Grove area of North Liberty County. It was not until February of this year that DNA testing positively identified the decomposed remains as Esmeralda Pargas. Sabrina Garcia was arrested around 7 a.m. Tuesday and booked into Liberty County Jail, charged with murder. Bail is set at $1 million.

LISD Staffing: The Liberty school district will be hiring two additional teachers and an aide for San Jacinto Elementary School. We recently reported on a rise in student numbers across Liberty County, including at Liberty ISD. During Tuesday night’s school board meeting, Chief Financial Officer Julie Hebert told trustees the district is up 118 students compared to the end of school this past May. She explained that an increase in students in kindergarten and first grade at San Jacinto Elementary has prompted the need for an additional teacher in each of those grades as well as another aide for the campus. The total cost for those positions will be $135,000.
