Injury to a Child: Zackaria James Knox, 21, of Cleveland has been arrested for Injury to a Child with Serious Bodily Injury. Cleveland Police Captain Scott Felts said the man allegedly used a BB gun to shoot his 7-month-old child in the forehead and on the top of the head. Cleveland Municipal Judge Bob Steely set bail at $25,000 for the second-degree felony charge.
TIRZ Board: Dayton City Council met Monday and appointed eight members who will serve on the advisory board for the city’s Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #1. That is the new Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone or TIRZ created to attract industrial development to the Gulf Inland Logistics Park on Hwy 146 South and the area adjacent to the park. The TIRZ allows 50% of property tax collected there to be used in reimbursement for a maximum of 25 years. Dayton council voted to appoint Terry Boyett, Bob Ford, Wesley Hinch, Neal Lutz, Wes Pratka, Felix Skarpa, Lester Ray Wisegerber and Arlene Langham who will serve as board chair. A ninth member of the TIRZ board will be appointed by Liberty County Commissioners.
TVE Wine Tasting: The Fourth Annual Trinity Valley Exposition Wine Tasting is set for Friday, October 12, at 6 p.m. in the TVE community room. Tickets are $30 each for an opportunity to enjoy 12 delicious wines from around the world. Organizers say, if you are a wine lover, this is a must do event. Sommeliers Jim and Sandra Sterling will again have their crew of wine servers along with some tasty snacks by Chef Bitty Hudnall. Dayton Open House: As the City of Dayton continues work to create what is called a Unified Development Code, another public open house is set for Thursday, September 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street. There will be an informal discussion of the city’s land development regulations, and light refreshments will be served. The public is urged to attend.
