Highway 90 Overpass: While it may not be the overpass that Dayton area motorists have been hoping for, this announcement from the Texas Department of Transportation is good news nevertheless. TxDOT has secured funding to construct an overpass for the Hwy 90 and FM 1413 intersection. Bids are expected in 2021. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said this is an important construction project since that section of roadway has been the scene of numerous traffic crashes. As for the much hoped for overpass on U.S. 90 at the railroad track in Dayton, Mr. Melancon said he believes that will eventually happen, too, but confirmation for that one is still in the future.
Sales Tax Dollars: Sales tax dollars have increased for nine of the 10 incorporated cities in Liberty County for the first three quarters of 2018 when compared to the same nine months last year. When all cities of Liberty County are combined, sales tax revenue is up 9.7% countywide. That’s a real dollar total increase of $566,816 for the 10 incorporated cities, countywide, that receive sales tax income. For that nine-month period, local share of sales tax payments to all 10 cities totals $7,070,831. Those revenues are used by cities in their general fund budgets. Taking a look at specific towns here in Liberty County, payments from sales tax collections to the city of Liberty are up 4.98% while Dayton’s share increased 15.85%. In Cleveland, sales tax revenue has risen 8.08% so far in 2018.
Detwiler Golf Tourney: There is still time to sign up as a golfer or sponsor for this Saturday’s Eighth Annual Shane Detwiler Foundation Golf Tournament at Atascocita Golf Club in Humble. Proceeds benefit the Shane Detwiler Foundation. Cost is $125 a person or $500 for a team of four. That price includes lunch, practice balls, a cart, green fees, a barbecue dinner and awards. There will also be a silent auction at the event. It begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with a shotgun start. Walkups are welcome, but to sign up early as a golfer or to become a sponsor, call Cheryl Railsback at 832-556-9760. You can also learn more online at
