Lady Panthers Ring Ceremony: The Liberty Lady Panthers’ state champion softball team will be honored with a ring presentation ceremony at halftime of this Friday night’s football game. Lady Panther Head Softball Coach Karen Slack invites the community out to help celebrate. The 2-0 Liberty Panthers football team hosts the 0-2 Livingston Lions with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. It is also Senior Tailgate Night, and everyone is invited out before the game. The seniors will be selling $10 brisket sandwiches from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday – that’s in the parking lot at Memorial Stadium.
SS Spousal Benefits: There are a lot of questions surrounding what are called “spousal benefits” available through Social Security. These benefits are provided to eligible retirees who have not worked enough in their lifetime to qualify for their own benefits. They will be able to draw roughly 50% of the total amount their spouse is getting. Social Security’s Andy Hardwick said a husband or wife who draws on their spouse’s retirement account will always only draw half of their spouse’s benefits, nothing extra. If you have questions about Social Security benefits you can link to the Social Security website from You can also call the Beaumont office at 866-613-2864 or the nationwide number at 800-772-1213.
Outdoor Expo: The annual Men Alive Outdoor Expo is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the TVE fairgrounds on FM 563 in Liberty. This free event is sponsored by the Trinity River Baptist Association. David Williams is director of missions for that association. He said while it is called a men’s expo, everybody is welcome. This free family friendly event includes music, a bounce house, exhibits and vendors, a youth BB gun tournament with parental permission, lots of door prizes and great fellowship. In addition, there will be a cook-off with teams providing free barbecue lunch with brisket and chicken. There will also be hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and beans. Mr. Williams emphasizes that everything is free, including a pocket knife for the first 200 men - 18 years old and above - who sign in. For more information, call 936-336-9232.
