Postal Service on Mail Dump: We have reported on the piles of undelivered mail found dumped in the woods south of Dayton last Wednesday. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office provided many details, like what postal route the dumped mail apparently was intended for and the undelivered mail was postmarked from Aug. 22 to Sept. 3. The sheriff’s report said the mail appeared to have been dumped by a postal employee. The sheriff’s office is assisting the U. S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General in this investigation. According a press release from the inspector general’s office, no information on the current state of their investigation is being released at this time. Citing the Privacy Act of 1974, the postal service’s public information office said they could not disclose any specific information on postal service employees until such time as criminal charges are filed and the information becomes public.
