Dayton police report a robbery at gunpoint of a carhop at the Sonic Drive In on Hwy 90 in Dayton at 10 a.m. Friday. Then on Monday the same suspect apparently struck again, this time armed with a knife at the Liberty Sonic Drive In, also on Hwy 90. Later Monday, Reshonda Walker, 41, of Liberty County was arrested on two outstanding warrants from the city of Forney. Those warrants are for Theft and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle there. Ms. Walker is being held in the Liberty County Jail on $100,000 bail for the two outstanding warrants. At last report, Aggravated Robbery charges against Ms. Walker are pending for the armed robberies at the Sonic locations in both Liberty and Dayton.
Kidnapping: A 27-year-old Liberty man was arrested in Louisiana Saturday on a charge of kidnapping. According to a press release from the Lake Charles Police Department, they received a 9-1-1 call shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday from a woman claiming she was kidnapped from Liberty and driven to Louisiana. She reportedly was able to escape her captor at a gas station and call for help. The woman also told police she had been sexually assaulted along the way. Lake Charles police located Juan Carlos Saucedo behind the gas station where he was arrested. The Liberty man was reportedly booked into the Calcasieu Parrish Correctional Center with bail set at $100,000.
Commissioners Court: During Tuesday’s meeting, Liberty County Commissioners approved the purchase of $172,391 in equipment for the Pct 2 and Pct 4 road and bridge departments. Pct. 2 is purchasing both a BOMAG vibratory tandem and a BOMAG pneumatic roller at a total cost of $103,395. The precinct has been leasing that equipment.
