Dayton Sewer Projects: Dayton City Council approved two major sewer system projects during their August 20 meeting. The first is relocation of a sanitary sewer system manhole near the railroad crossing in the 600 block of Hwy 146. Dayton council awarded the bid to a Pearland-based company, Nerie Construction, for $11,400. The second sewer project involves the rehabilitation or replacement of 1,700 linier feet of clay pipe located along FM 1960. Dayton council approved a bid from Texas Pride Construction of Pasadena to replace the 1940s era clay pipe. The cost is $65,750. Both the manhole relocation and the sewer line work are tentatively planned to begin this week.
Panther Game Time Change: Please note - there has been a time change for Friday’s Liberty Panthers football game versus the Huffman-Hargrave Falcons in Huffman. We have reported frequently the season opening football game start time but learned from Liberty Head Coach Chad Taylor there was a schedule mistake. On Saturday, he learned from Huffman school officials the correct start time for the Liberty Panthers at Huffman-Hargrave Falcons football game is 7 p.m. this Friday. Please spread the word and tell your friends and family.
Sales Tax Collections: Sales tax dollars have increased for nine of the 10 incorporated cities in Liberty County for January through August as compared to the same eight months last year. When all cities are combined, sales tax revenue is up 7.65 percent countywide. For the eight-month period, local share of sales tax payments to all 10 cities countywide totals $6,263,935. That’s a real dollar total increase of $444,968. Those revenues are used by cities in their general operating budgets.
Shred It: The date is set for the City of Liberty’s next Free Community Shred it Day. That document shredding event will be Saturday, September 22, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Liberty City Hall parking lot. Just as with previous shredding events, a bonded, professional shredding company will shred and then dispose of sensitive documents. That includes old credit card statements, IRS tax records, outdated financial statements, computer disks or anything that lists personal information. This service is free to everyone. For more information, call Liberty City Hall at 936-336-3684.
