Life Sentence for DWI: A Liberty County jury has sentenced a Splendora man to life in prison for Driving While Intoxicated. The trial of 61-year-old Randy Gene Bauer began Monday in Judge Chap Cain’s 253rd District Courtroom. Tuesday, the jury deliberated less than 10 minutes before finding Randy Bauer guilty. Because the Splendora man had three previous DWI convictions, the charge was elevated to a felony. Liberty County District Attorney Logan Pickett said some jurors in this case struggled with punishing someone so severely for DWI, but Bauer’s repeated arrests for drinking and driving as well as his violent criminal history convinced them the Splendora man presented a danger to the community.

That is the same rate as the just ending budget cycle. Julie Hebert is the Liberty school district’s chief financial officer and director of business services. She said the general fund budget projects revenue of $20.52 million with expenditures of $20.9 million.
