Shooting Victim Dies: The victim in Friday night’s shooting south of Cleveland has passed away. We reported a 44-year-old woman had been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon following a Friday night shooting at a home on County Road 2279. Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said the woman, identified as Jessica Michelle Tullos, called 9-1-1 to report she had shot 56-year-old Richard Dale Morris following a physical altercation. Morris was transported by LifeFlight air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he died Saturday. Captain DeFoor said the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office will now present the case to a grand jury for the consideration of any additional charges. Jessica Tullos is free on a $35,000 bond.
Burn Ban: Liberty County Judge Jay Knight issued a burn ban yesterday for the unincorporated areas of Liberty County. Of course, open burning is prohibited in most towns by city ordinance. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index for the majority of Liberty County is currently in the 500 to 700 range. A small southwest portion of the county is in the highest category of 700 to 800. Liberty County Commissioners Court generally enacts a burn ban when that index tops the 575 mark. As of yesterday, there are similar burn bans in place for at least 141 of the 254 counties statewide.
TVE Youth Rodeo: The annual Trinity Valley Exposition Youth Rodeo is set for September 29 at the TVE Fairgrounds on FM 563 south of Hwy 90 in Liberty. Entries are being accepted now.
