Liberty City Manager Search: The city of Liberty continues to search for a new permanent city manager. As reported, the Texas First Group has supplied the city with its current interim city manager, Larry Shaw, following the retirement of Gary Broz. Texas First Group is also conducting the search for the new city manager with a list of candidates for council to interview selected in the next few weeks. Mr. Shaw says Liberty should have a permanent city manager in two months - at the most.
DISD Jobs: We reported the Dayton school district is currently recruiting new substitute teachers for the upcoming school year. However there are also a number of other positions available in the school district. Mary Ellen Conner, DISD’s executive director of personnel services, said that list of job openings include some teaching positions, teachers’ aides and several support staff positions as well. She said one area where Dayton ISD, and other districts, is always short-handed is in the transportation department where bus drivers are needed. Food Truck Friday: Tomorrow is Food Truck Friday in downtown Dayton. Kimberly Judge, assistant city manager of development services for the city of Dayton, invites everyone out to enjoy some good food and community fellowship. Among the food truck vendors that will be there tomorrow are Joshua’s Southern Spice, Ma & Pa’s Meats & Sweets, Cajun Cravin, and Fish Tales. Also taking part is Pappy’s Bar-b-que, Pat’s Wings on Wheels, and El Chapo Taquisas. Those seven food trucks will be serving tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Highway 90 and Church Street in downtown Dayton.
Sales Tax Holiday: The very popular annual back-to-school sales tax holiday is this weekend. It starts at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow and continues through midnight Sunday. Lists of apparel and school supplies that are tax-free can be found on the Texas Comptroller’s website – link there from
