Golf Course Fees: It has been roughly two weeks since the city of Liberty took control of Magnolia Ridge Country Club. Since that time, the now renamed Liberty Municipal Golf Course has continued operating without any significant problems. Interim Liberty City Manager Larry Shaw stresses the city-owned golf course is open to the public. Under the new fee schedule, the cost to play nine holes on weekdays is $16 with a cart, $11 without a cart. For 18 holes, the weekday cost is $25 with a cart, $18 without a cart. The cost to play at Liberty Municipal Golf Course on weekends and holidays for 18 holes is $27 with a cart, $18 without a cart. For nine holes on weekends and holidays, the cost is $17 with a cart, $11 without a cart. Discounts are available on the daily fees for those 65 years of age and older. Liberty Municipal Golf Course also has annual and semi-annual fees for individuals and families. For more information, call 936-336-3551.
Dayton City Manager Review: It has now been slightly more than a year since Theo Melancon came on board as Dayton’s city manager. At their meeting Monday, Dayton City Council performed their first annual evaluation of their city manager. After meeting in closed-door executive session, Dayton City Council returned to open session and approved Theo Melancon’s performance as city manager, giving him a seven percent pay increase for merit. Dayton Mayor Jeff Lambright praised Mr. Melancon for his energy and abilities.
Applicator Training: The Liberty County AgriLife Extension Service will hold another Private Pesticide Applicator Training a week from today – that’s Wednesday, July 25, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Liberty County Extension Office, 501 Palmer Avenue in Liberty. This class is for the first 10 who sign up to obtain a license to apply pesticides that are otherwise restricted by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Please note - this is just the training course. The required state testing is done weekly at locations in Houston. Entry deadline is this coming Monday. Cost for the training is $65.
