Hurricane Prediction Change: Researchers at Colorado State University have revised their 2018 hurricane forecast downward to a below average season. Their revised predictions are for 10 named tropical storms with four reaching hurricane force. The Colorado State forecasters predict only one of those storms to reach major status with sustained winds of at least 111 miles per hour. This year’s predictions compare to the 50-year median of 12 storms per year with 2.3 reaching category 3 or higher. So, what about predictions for our area? These experts now predict the Gulf Coast – from the Florida Panhandle westward to Brownsville in Texas – has a 21 percent chance of being struck by a major hurricane. The 50-year average is 30 percent. The Houston-Galveston National Weather Service has a 32-page, full-color Hurricane and Severe Weather Guide that area residents might find helpful. We have provided an online link to that latest publication on the top of our homepage at
DISD Online: The deadline for Dayton ISD online returning student registration is this Sunday. Also, every parent of a student who is returning to DISD next school year is required to attend one of the school district’s residency verification events. Those events are set for July 26, July 31 and August 1 at Dayton High School. DISD Executive Director of Technology Suzanne Chachere said online returning student registration does not replace a visit to one of the proof of residency events, but it will make that process move a lot faster. New student registration in the Dayton ISD is during the first week of August at the campus that new student will be attending. For more information, call the DISD administration office at 936-258-2667 or go to the district’s website - link there from

Anyone interested in advertising in the upcoming member directory should call 936-336-5736.
