Dr. Barrett Leaving LISD: Liberty High School Principal Chad Barrett has resigned to accept a position as the head athletic trainer for the Pasadena Independent School District. Liberty ISD Superintendent Dr. Cody Abshier said Dr. Barrett will be going back to the school district where he worked from 2001 to 2013 to pursue his passion as a trainer. Dr. Abshier said Liberty ISD has posted the LHS principal’s position and is accepting applications for Dr. Barrett’s replacement. Dr. Abshier said he expects that process to move quickly.
Molotov Cocktails: A 23-year-old Cleveland man is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon after three incendiary devices were found in his home Tuesday night. According to Cleveland Police Captain Scott Felts, Cleveland PD received a call around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday reporting a man living in the 700 block of Clay Street was in possession of homemade bombs. Based on the caller’s description, police believed the items to be what are known as Molotov Cocktails. He said a subsequent investigation along with the execution of a search warrant turned up three incendiary devices inside the home. The devices were removed and defused, and Devon Eugene Ryan was charged with the third-degree felony Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. At last report, he remains jailed with bail set at $10,000.
Illinois Murder Trial’s Local Connection: A murder trial with a local connection is under way in Rolling Meadow, Illinois, outside Chicago. Donnie Rudd is a Winnie native and 1960 graduate of Liberty High School. He is on trial for the 1973 death of his then wife, 19-year-old Noreen Kumeta Rudd, in Barrington Hills, Illinois. Nearly 45 years later, Donnie Rudd is accused of killing his young bride and setting it up to look like a traffic accident. Donnie has been free awaiting trial after putting up $400,000 in bail money. He is the subject of a book titled “Living with the Devil” co-written by sisters Lori and Cindy Hart, the daughters of his third wife, Dianne Rudd. She died of breast cancer back in 1996.
