Commissioners Court: Liberty County Commissioners met yesterday and approved a grant application for about one million dollars that had previously been tabled. At their June 12th meeting, commissioners held a lengthy discussion on whether to approve a grant for more than $1 million dollars to go to Dayton Park Apartments for upgrades. The argument for approval was the apartment complex houses low income families, providing a needed service to the area. The argument against was the fact that the for-profit company had recently received a $1.7 million grant for upgrades to the same facility. Without the court’s approval, the approximately $1 million federal grant would be passed on to Matagorda County. On Tuesday, commissioners again split the vote 2-2. Liberty County Judge Jay Knight broke the tie and voted to keep the grant funds in county, awarding the federal dollars to Dayton Park Apartments.
