Golf Course Sale Final: The deal is done. After months of discussion, the City of Liberty closed Friday on the purchase of the Magnolia Ridge Country Club golf course. Last Tuesday Liberty City Council ratified an action by Liberty Community Development Corporation authorizing the purchase of the golf course for an amount not to exceed $300,000. The final closing price Friday was $293,238. The former Magnolia Ridge Country Club now becomes Liberty Municipal Golf Course and continues to operate without missing a beat. Officials are still seeking someone to open, establish and run the food/beverage restaurant at the now city of Liberty owned facility.
Cleveland Girl Recognized: Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader and Cleveland Police Chief Darrell Broussard, along with other local law enforcement officers, gathered Friday to say thank you to 10-year-old Bea Day of Cleveland. Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said the expression of gratitude was the result of Bea’s actions during National Police Week back in May. She set up a water station in front of her house to serve law enforcement officers and first-responders. On Friday, she was presented with a new bike and made an honorary member of both the sheriff’s office and Cleveland PD. When asked why she set up the water station during National Police Week, Bea Day said, “I wanted to do something for all the policemen who help us so much, and it was also my birthday and I wanted to give a present instead of getting a present.”
DVFD BBQ: The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fund-raiser BBQ this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until all the food is sold out. That’s at the new fire department on S.H. 321 at Bill Moreau Drive in Dayton. Those $12 BBQ plates include brisket, beans and green rice. All proceeds benefit the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department. You can eat there or get your $12 barbecue plates to go. Please note - they are now able to accept cash, checks, and debit or credit cards.
