Lady Panther Celebration: The Liberty school district is holding a parade honoring the softball state champion Lady Panthers this Thursday at 7 p.m. Liberty ISD Superintendent Dr. Cody Abshier invites the whole community out to help celebrate. The Lady Panthers will leave from Liberty Middle School, travel east on Jefferson Drive and turn north on Panther Lane beside the high school. Once they reach the LHS softball field, there will be a presentation and celebration. Liberty ISD will be serving free hot dogs, watermelons and drinks. You’re encouraged to bring a lawn chair for comfort.
Special Education: Experts say having a child in special education is not the stigma it once was. Nevertheless all screening for learning disabilities is strictly confidential. Michaelene Morrison is director of Dayton ISD special education. She said the most important thing for parents to know if they suspect their child has a disability is to get them tested as soon as possible. A child who may have a learning disability can be screened as early as their third birthday. Those who live within the Dayton school district should call 936-367-7380. Those outside DISD may contact the special education department in their school district.
Chamber Lunch: There’s still time to signup for this Wednesday’s Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce noon luncheon at the Liberty Center. This month’s guest speakers will be representatives from a group called Grand Parkway Infrastructure or GPI. It’s a chance to get the full story on the State Highway 99 project as it routes through Liberty and Chambers counties. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. The $10 meal will be prepared by Subway. For reservations, call the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber during business hours at 936-336-5736.
